Why are you to be “saved”? From what are you “saved”?

You should desire to be saved from the ultimate consequence of your sin which is complete eternal separation from God, hell. This term suggests that you need a “savior” or someone to save you because you cannot save yourself. This is absolutely correct since you cannot pay for your sin with your good works.

The Bible also teaches that there is a terrible time of trouble coming called “The Great Tribulation”. This period of time pertains to the Jewish people, God’s chosen people. It is a time to bring them back to a relationship with Him just like many times in the Old Testament. We will be “saved” from this time if we have accepted God’s free gift of salvation through the shed blood of Jesus Christ.

As you look at the lives of other people who have made decisions that have had harsh consequences you can be glad that you have followed God in making good decisions. By following God’s directions you will be “saved” from the terrible consequences of sin. Be sure your sin will come with consequences. You do not want to sin. You want to be “saved” from the consequences of sin and experience the abundant life God’s has planned for you.
